AMD has released FSR 3.1, the latest iteration of its Fidelityfx Super Resolution, boasting enhanced quality and a significant feature that PC gamers will appreciate. This update, which was initially announced at GDC 2024 in March with a Q2 release target, has arrived just before that deadline.

FSR 3.1 debuts with initial support for five games, all of which are PlayStation ports developed by Nixxes Software: Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut. Additionally, God of War Ragnarok, currently under porting by Jetpack Interactive, is expected to receive FSR 3.1 support soon.

One of the standout improvements in FSR 3.1 is its higher quality upscaled image compared to FSR 3, delivering reduced ghosting, flickering, and other visual artifacts. Moreover, AMD has introduced a pivotal feature by separating upscaling and frame generation processes in FSR 3.1. This decoupling allows frame generation to function independently, making it compatible with other upscaling technologies such as Nvidia DLSS and Intel XeSS, in addition to FSR.

As of now, FSR 3 (not 3.1) supports around 60 games, with ongoing support being extended to more titles. AMD continues to adopt an inclusive approach with its graphics card technologies, ensuring that Nvidia and Intel GPUs can benefit from FSR 3.1, alongside AMD’s own Radeon graphics cards. This openness underscores AMD’s commitment to enhancing gaming experiences across a broad spectrum of hardware platforms.
