Highest Capacity 2Tb QLC Flash Memory

Kioxia Corporation has started shipping samples of its 8th-generation BiCS FLASH 3D flash memory technology, enabling Highest Capacity 2Tb QLC Flash Memory with 2Tb (tera bit) of Quad-Level-Cell (QLC) capacity. This achievement is the largest capacity for QLC devices in the industry and sets a new standard for storage capacities that is anticipated to spur growth in a number of application areas, including artificial intelligence.

Kioxia’s most recent BiCS FLASH technology uses unique topologies and patented techniques to produce considerable improvements in memory die scaling, both laterally and vertically. The innovative CBA (CMOS directly Bonded to Array) technology, which enables higher density devices and industry-leading interface speeds up to 3.6Gbps, is crucial to this accomplishment. The 2Tb QLC, the largest capacity memory device on the market, is made possible by these state-of-the-art technology.

The 2Tb QLC device outperforms Kioxia’s prior fifth-generation QLC devices, which were already among the greatest capacity in their product selection, by nearly 2.3 times and achieves about 70 percent improved write power efficiency. With an industry-leading 4TB (tera byte) capacity, this innovative QLC device boasts a 16-die stacked design in a single memory package. Furthermore, it has a small package dimension of 11.5 x 13.5 mm and a height of 1.5 mm, enabling more affordable and capacious consumer NVMe SSDs.

Kioxia has expanded its line of memory products to include 1Tb QLC units in addition to the 2Tb QLC. Compared to the capacity-focused 2Tb QLC, the 1Tb QLC, which is positioned for speed optimization, offers roughly 15% lower read latency and 30% quicker sequential write performance.

“We are pleased to be shipping samples of our new 2Tb QLC with the new eighth-generation BiCS FLASH™ technology,” said Hideshi Miyajima, Chief Technology Officer of Kioxia. “With its industry-leading high bit density, high speed data transfer, and superior power efficiency, the 2Tb QLC product will offer new value for rapidly emerging AI applications and large storage applications demanding power and space savings.”

Hideshi Miyajima, Chief Technology Officer of Kioxia

Mobile devices and client SSDs are among the high-performance applications that the 1Tb QLC is intended for deployment in.

All things considered, Kioxia’s innovations in QLC memory technology with the launch of the 2Tb and 1Tb devices demonstrate their dedication to expanding the limits of storage capacity and performance in order to meet a variety of market demands, ranging from high-performance computing applications to consumer electronics.
