President Trump appears to have softened his stance on Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan. In a post on Truth Social, Trump shared that he met with Tan, Howard Lutnick, and key Cabinet members, describing the meeting as “very interesting” and praising Tan’s journey as “an amazing story.” This marks a shift from Trump’s earlier criticism, when he called Tan “highly conflicted” due to investments in Chinese firms—some reportedly linked to China’s military—and urged him to resign.

Tan responded to the controversy in a letter to Intel employees, stating that misinformation had clouded perceptions of his past roles. He emphasized his commitment to legal and ethical standards and confirmed that Intel was working with the White House to clarify the facts.
Trump’s initial call for resignation was reportedly prompted by a letter from Senator Tom Cotton, who raised concerns about Intel’s security due to Tan’s ties with China. Tan, who became CEO in March, inherited a struggling foundry business and has since implemented aggressive cost-cutting measures, including a 22% workforce reduction. He also warned investors that Intel may abandon its next-gen manufacturing tech if it fails to secure a major client.
