Lexar has unveiled the NM990 M.2 2280 PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSD, a next-generation drive designed for high-end gamers, professional creators, and AI developers.
Harnessing PCIe 5.0 technology, the NM990 delivers up to 14,000 MB/s read and 11,000 MB/s write speeds—nearly double that of typical Gen 4 SSDs. This makes it well-suited for demanding gaming, rendering, and data-intensive workloads.
To ensure sustained performance, the drive features Thermal Defender Technology with an integrated 8-channel controller and graphite heat-dissipation decals, improving power efficiency by up to 23%. It also includes DRAM Cache and SLC dynamic cache, enabling random speeds of up to 2,000K IOPS (read) and 1,500K IOPS (write) for faster load times and system responsiveness.
Reliability is another focus: the 4 TB model is rated for up to 3,000 TBW, supporting heavy workloads for years. The NM990 also supports Microsoft DirectStorage, cutting game load times and enhancing overall gameplay fluidity. Users can manage firmware, monitor health, and optimize performance through the Lexar DiskMaster SSD Management tool.
